Downloaded Apps Brakes Record In December
Over a billion apps were downloaded in a single week according to a study.
Analytics firm Flurrys study indicated 1.2 billion apps were downloaded in the run up week to the new year. This was mainly due to the fact that many users got brand new devices as their xmas gifts, and also many companies reduced the prices of their apps over the holiday period.
Leading the race for the most amount of downloads for this period was the US, followed by China, and then the UK.
Other countries that contributed to the total downloads were Canada with 41 million, Germany with 40 million, and France also with 40 million.
The country with the most downloads US had 509 million downloads, then China with 99 million, and UK with 81 million downloads.
Flurrys study indicates that this level of download activity will soon be the standard.
“Looking forward to 2012, Flurry expects breaking the one billion download barrier per week will become more commonplace,” they said in their blog
Device makers had a booming time during xmas. Flurrys study estimated that nearly 7 million Android and iPhone devices were activated on Christmas Day. Google disclosed that more than 3.7 million Android devices were activated on the run up week to xmas.
